Wow, how the year is flying by! I can’t believe that November is almost over. This month we have been working very hard as a class. Our students completed persuasive writing papers and we are now working on procedure writing. Each student is writing about a craft they will teach to others in the school sometime in the month of December. We will have many great projects ahead! We also have been working in a math unit, called Primetime for the last 4 weeks and will end our unit tomorrow with a unit assessment. Some of what this unit covers is: how to solve problems using factors and multiples. We have learned about factor trees, prime and composite numbers, greatest common factor and least common multiple. Our next unit will be working with fractions, decimals and percents.

Great news! I applied for and was awarded an ACEEF grant of $1000.00. This will be put towards our end of the year class trip to Pok-o-MacCready! We still have plenty left to raise and hope to raise the rest with the following fundraisers. Please let me know how you can help!
I am hoping that each family and student will help in some way.

Ropes Course at VUHS
It was such a positive experience for the class. Everyone tried some part of the ropes course and all had a good time! The teamwork was amazing and they demonstrated working outside of their comfort zone with such grace. I was so proud of the class with all that they accomplished on the course. Thank you to Gabrielle Jensen who arranged for our class to use the ropes course at VUHS. Also a huge thank you to all our parent drivers and chaperones! Stop by the school to see pictures of the kids on the course and the poetry they wrote about the event.
NECAPS
Our last day of testing will be on Thursday( with just a questionnaire), unless a student has a make up test and that will take place on Friday and Monday (if needed). As everyone was here today and healthy,I did alter the plan to include two tests today! The students agreed this would be a good thing to do , so we went for it! The results will be back sometime in January. All of the students worked hard and did their best.

Upcoming Dates:
Student Led Parent Conferences: October 26th, November 1st and 2nd. This is a goal setting conference to help support your child in setting goals that will move their learning forward and help them to follow through with goals that they help create. If you have not set up a time, please let me know what works for you.

Parent Fund raising Meeting:
November 11th : 7:30 to take place at the community supper at the Bridport Grange. We will be picking dates and setting up events to hold this year, to support our class trip in May to Pok-o-MacCready Outdoor Education Center. You can find out more about Pok-O-MacCready at http://www.pmoec.org/. This is a three day, two night field trip. We hike, explore nature, learn about watersheds, complete a sensory course, participate in a Revolutionary War reenactment, learn about survival in the woods, rock wall climbing, team building and more. It is always a positive time and the students grow in their independence. It is a great way for them to end their time here at BCS before they go to MUMS!
I hope that you will be able to attend.

Sincerely,
Sara Russell
